Section Three Post Due December 30th by midnight: Has British influence hurt or helped the people of India?

Section Three: Rukmani and her family until she and Nathan go to the city

You must select one quote that supports that British influence HELPs them and one quote that supports that British influence HURTS the Indian people.

Be sure to use analytical tasks to explain HOW the quote shows HURT or HELP for each quote.  This includes breaking down, summarizing, HOW it connects, that it connects and other tasks we identified in class.

Your post will not be graded if there are misspellings, obvious grammatical errors or lacks citation.

This is the last post.   The final section of the book will be assessed Wednesday the 2nd in your quiz on chapter 14-16 of Candide.  You will be quizzed on both books in one 20 point quiz.

Post 2: How has colonialism impacted Rukmani and her family, India and the foreigners in India like Kenny?

Just like the last post, select two quotes that show the impact colonialism had on India in the SECOND SECTION WHERE RUKMANI HAS CHILDREN.  Read between the lines.  You must:

  •  identify the context of the quote
  •  what impact it has- positive or negative
  •  how you know it has that impact through the text, not opinion
  • don't forget the who, what, where, when and why
  • cite

Think about how rural India was BEFORE the British entered.  There is no war in this book and the setting of this book is after the British came in.  Since India is so big, not all areas were impacted immediately but as the British began to move into their areas.

Grammatically incorrect and misspelled posts will not be read!  Due 12/27 by midnight.  That means midnight ON the 27th, not midnight on the 26th.

Post One: 12-24-12

Under this post, click comment and add your GRAMMATICALLY CORRECT response to this question in complete sentences:

What signs of colonialism are present in the first section about Rukmani before and during her early part of marriage?  Remember that the British invaded and colonize India so any British or European customs, people or ideas show signs of colonialism.

Post two quotes that show the British influence.

Explain the context and how it impacts the Indian village and people in a positive and/or negative way.
